Makeover Monday
Getting foundation right on Asian skin tones!
This week's Makeover Monday model is my lovely Grandmother Sandra! She has beautiful skin, a winning smile and a very big heart! To do this makeover on her was great because I wanted to show people how to choose the right foundation for Asian skin.
Sandra rarely wears make-up and when she does, it is truly very little; maybe some eyeshadow, but mainly just a lipstick. Her biggest concern is always how to choose the right foundation. So this was my opportunity to show how to create a natural look and have a foundation that matched her skin tone.
Sandra Before
Foundation: Foundation can be a difficult thing for Asian skin tones to get right. Sandra doesn't like the feel of make-up and I wanted to use a foundation that perfectly balanced the yellow undertones she has in her skin. I used Lancome Teint Miracle No.10, Praline, a lightweight foundation that provides light to medium coverage. I set the skin using Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Dark Tan.
Eyes: As Sandra has quite dark circles around her eyes, I used the Trish McEvoy Eyebase Essential in Toffee. This was a good match for her skin tone to even out the darkness on the lids. Also acted as a primer for the eyeshadows used. (I am not certain that they still sell this colour, but it is the best colour that works on Asian and Black skin).
The eyeshadows used are Hoodwinked across the lid to the socket, followed by Texture in the socket and Embark on the outer corners of the eyes to enhance the contour. All eyeshadows are by M.A.C.
I then lined her eyes with the Trish McEvoy Intense Black gel liner, this gave more definition to the eyes and make her lashes look thicker at the root of the lash line. I then dressed the lashes with lashings and lashings of Dior Iconic Mascara. This gave more definition to her lashes.
As Sandra is quite dark under the eyes, I use a corrector concealer in Ochre, followed by NC45 studio finish concealer from MAC.
Sandra has been All Scrubbed Up!
Brows: I like to make the brows look really natural so I use Embark eyeshadow to fill in the brows.
Blush: Format I love this blusher, it gives Sandra a nice natural bronzy glow on the cheeks.
Lips: Plum liner MAC and Dolce vita gloss by Nars.
Thanks to my wonderful Grandma Sandra for being my model. I would love to hear your thoughts, comments about finding the right foundation for your skin tone.
