Dermalogica Facial

Make-Up Always Looks Best on Great Skin!

Now there is something you should know about me.   I do love a good facial, I love them for the fact that I feel for an hour my skin is totally at the whim of someone else.  Someone who is going to fully scrubb it up and then nurture it before it handed back to me to look after!!

As a working Make-Up Artist, I totally believe that good skin is the basis for any great make-up look, minimal or fully loaded.  To have good skin is dependant on a number of factors:

  • First and foremost, genetics - regardless how little or much you look after your skin, your genes will pretty much play the most part in how it looks.
  • Second - diet, if you have a poor diet, all the toxins in your body will try to escape and that can often come through on your skin.
  • Thirdly - Sleep and Smoking, not getting enough sleep can make your skin look tired and smoking, well, we all know apart from it having harmful effects inside your body, it can also speed up the aging process in your skin.
  • Finally one of the most important factors is also skincare!  I like to invest in decent skincare on myself to maintain a youthful look of 20 something even if I am not.  I believe that the true key for youthful looking skin is hydration!!  If your skin looks dry, it tends to look more old and more wrinkly.  So a regular routine of cleansing, exfoliating and hydrating is key!!

I recently booked in with Dermalogica at Liberty's to have a facial because my skin was looking digustingly dull and felt very congested.  As I wear make-up most days, I could see that my make-up was just not sitting the way it should on my skin or looking how I wanted, regardless of how many strobing products I used.

The great thing about Dermalogica is that they do a full "Face Mapping" on you.  They will go through each section of your face and analyse the skin, telling you where you are oily, congested or dehydrated; from this they can then determine the course of treatment and appropriate products to use.

Lizzie did my facial and also gave a fantastic upper body massage that helped to relieve any tension from my neck down to my back.  This facial consists of a thorough pre-cleanse and then she switches on the steamer to fully start the facial.  I love the steam, it just feels like it is enticing all the dirt and grime to come to the surface and then once cleansed is taken away.

During the treatment, Lizzie used professional grade exfoliators on me.  This combined with the steam really opened up the pores and was able to breakdown any congestion.   Then once all the exfoliators were cleaned off she extracted any blocked pores, I love this part, because, it means that your skin is thoroughly cleaned!!  Lizzie then massaged my neck, shoulders (which felt like rocks) and upper back.  It was fantastic, very relaxing and a good release of tension in my shoulders.  After the massage Lizzie applied some serums and used a roling machine that pushed the products futher into my skin.  It felt like a facial massage.  She then put the Skin Smoothing Cream and Solar Defense Booster to moisturise and protect my skin.

What's so fanastic about a facial is the clarity, smoothness and uber clean feeling that is leaves your skin feeling.  My skin feels so good, I don't really want to even go out into the polluted air of London to have the grime settle on my skin.  Its also great that people compliment you on how great your skin looks, giving you that holiday glow, even though you have only been to a treatment room for an hour!

I highly reccomend a facial with Dermalogica, it is a great experience and the team at Liberty's are really lovely.  If you are not sure about a facial they also offer the Skin Bar service which a great way to have a skin mapp and try some of the products yourself on counter.   They show you how to use the products properly.  You can book in for a facial by calling 0207 734 1234.
