American Vogue's September issue is truly WOW!  Anna Wintour giving Beyonce full reign of her front cover shoot and inside spread is a bold and wonderful move.  The photos are beautiful and Beyonce's reason for wanting the images in this particular way are even more so.  She writes "I think it's important for women and men to see and appreciate the beauty in their natural bodies.  That's why I stripped away the wigs and hair extensions and used little makeup for this shoot."

During this article Beyonce talk body image, how her first pregnancy affected her, the pressure she felt to get back into shape and how she has learned to be more accepting of her body, especially after the birth of twins Rumi and Sir.

She talked about using her power to ‘open doors’ and references the likes of Diana Ross Eartha Kitt and Josephine Baker to name a few that helped open the door for her.  In addition she touches on leaving a legacy, wanting her children to experience a life with 'no ceiling' and the type of adults she wishes them to be.

For this front cover Beyonce chose to work with and open the door even further for 23 year old Tyler Mitchell (Tyler has worked on campaigns for Mercedes Benz, Converse, Nike and Marc Jacobs as well as having his very own photography book El Paquete), having the world view his artistry through his lens not only is this a momentous occasion for Tyler but also for Vogue as this is the first time in 126 years that they have worked with a photographer of black origin for their front cover.

This is a short, sweet and simple piece by Beyoncé, a piece that gives you a glimpse in to who she really is of how far she has come through her trials and tribulations and the importance of love, her family and diversity in the media industry. Beyonce says in her article that in her early career she was told that it would be ‘hard for me to get onto covers of magazines because black people did not sell’ well, times are a changing and if American vogue were sold here in the UK I would certainly buy a copy in support of the wonderful change that is happening, long may it continue.
